My 99 Sunfire is getting more and more reluctant to start. Several months ago I started having to turn it to ON, let the fuel pump buzz for a bit, then I would turn it to start and it would turn over. Now even when I do that, it cranks a bit like it isn't going to start. I push the gas down and it finally starts. Once running, it is fine. It is something that is getting worse though and I would like to fix it before it breaks. Does this sound like an ignition switch?

Also, the brights don't work. When I flip the switch for the brights, the DRL come on. What's up with that??

how many miles since a complete tuneup? did you check if the high beam filament is blown out in both bulbs? Other possibilty is a bad ground in the front harness for the lights.

The car sat for 4 years then I got it going again last October. A mechanic went over it and did a complete tune up. That was about 10K miles ago. It only has about 81k miles on it.

When I hit the switch for the high beams, the DRL indicator lights up on the dash and it switches back to those lights. The blue high beam indicator never comes on at all now. It has been this way for a long time, but I never really needed the high beams until now. Still I don't want to put a lot of money into fixing it cause I can drive it okay without the high beams.

check your fuel pressure for the starting issue.
