Recently purchased 1979 Firebird at an auction (tilt wheel/4 spd). Cannot lock steering column with ignition key. Is my problem most likely:
a) incorrect key for ignition switch,
b) faulty locking mechanism do-dad in steering column (locking pin moves when key is rotated, but does not entend far enough to engage cogs on locking plate),
c) faulty ignition switch?
Shouldn't the ignition and doors be keyed alike? My doors and trunk are keyed alike. I though the doors and ignition should be keyed alike and the trunk keyed separately. Additionally, ignition key can be removed at any time from ignition lock.
Thanks for your help.
