Hello,

I have a 99 Sunfire. A couple weeks ago, my car started making a strange noise. I would say it is located in the trunk/back, driver side. My trunk is empty and the 5th wheel is well fixed.
The noise is intermittent and is somehow related to gear/rpm. With 5th gear, the noise stops after ~60mph.
Noise is like something was vibrating on something else.

Any idea of what I should look at?

Regards.

Check to see if the exhaust is hitting anything. Check the wheel bearing.

Also check the tension bars for its rear trunk. Sometimes, they come out of their plastic holders and vibrate against something.

If rear vibration is heard at low speed, have a small body person crawl in the trunk and drive around in an very large empty parking lot. Sunday driving at its best. The person in the trunk can listen for the source of the sound. re: In the trunk area or under the truck area. This trick worked for my son's vehicle - to identify its rear sound (which was from its rear trunk lid tension bars rubbing each other). Wrap with some rubber electrical tape and problem solved. LOL!!!

Hope this helps.
