Newbie here and in need of some info. I am finally putting new struts on my 1999 Sunfire and in looking at RockAuto, I see 1st Design and 2nd Design front struts. How do I know which I have and does it matter? Does either one fit or/and do I have to get extra parts if I change design? Thanks in advance for any help and info. New dude

it does matter..i would take a good look at your struts on your car, or even take sum pics..go down to a autoparts store and see the difference
Anyone got anything more specific? If you look at pics of them, they all look the same. If you Google this, you get no useful info so there is evidently not much out there on these. I had hoped that someone who has replaced their struts before had encountered this. Thanks.

If you have a late production date for the car, say 4/1999 or 5/1999 you have second design but I can not find a clear cutoff date.

Thats what i said..you need to look at your car, not online..take notes of what yours looks like or even take pictures yourself..then drive to a auto parts store and match what you have from the pictures you have..
Thanks melsg5. That's what I was looking for. Mine is 6/1999 so looks like it would be 2nd design.
BTW, I did find some more info online. I found that the only difference is the bearing in the upper mount. If you use a complete assembly, it makes no difference.

It DOSE NOT matter. All the years are interchangable, the change over year would have been mid 99. Good chance yours would have the 1st style. But it dosen't matter which you get will fit either way. Struts and springs are the same all years and 2dr+4dr they just changed the strut mount style
