Sunbird as present for my wife

Hi everyone I just bougth a 94 sunbird LE convertible as a present 4 my wife it,s a four cylinder 2.0, the one with the small valve cover. I move it from the adress where I got it with no problems at all( only a noise incoming unde the car). This mourning I tried to drive it again but it wont shift to 2nd gear, I had to accelerate to almost 25 miles and upshift by itself to 3rd gear. What should I check first?? Transmi oil level ok. How can I identify what model of transmi is it?? Is it electronic?? I got many issues since 2 mechanics told me oposite type of transmision and I can't drive like that from one mechanic to another. Thanks for your time.

look at the pan shape, sounds like either a shift solenoid or modulator if it has one. You could also change the filter and fluid if you dont know when it was last done but do not flush the transmission.

Ok,i'll take a look at it. Just read the reply. By the mourning will try to call a mechanic to scan the sistem. Is it an OBDII??

OBD I actually, most advanced auto parts stores will read your codes for free, or you might be able to do the jumper trick to get the code(s).

dont think the stores have OBD1 scanners and transmission will not throw an OBD1 code

 

[92 Sunbird LE]

Its a TH125C ( lock up convertor) or sometimes called 3T40

Have them check your TV cable adjustment, and that the blue TCC Plug is connected ( towards the radiator side of the trans)

A line pressure check also may be needed.
