HI !
I have 94 sunbird 2.0 litre 5 speed. I am having problems with the transmission. It seems like it whines when I accelerate and change gears.
Is the tranny oil low, and how do I check it ? Where do I add tranny fluid ?
My bird has over 300 000 km on it. Any ideas "
Thanks ; Gary

you should have the Izusu 5-speed. This is the same trans that is used in fieros with the 2.5 4 cyl. these transmissions are stronger than people give them credit. Ok to answer your question First look for a dipstick agenst the firewall on the drivers side. if it has one great, cheak your trans oil and refill as necessary thru the dipstick tube. If there is no dipstick then dig a little deeper and you will find the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). It should have 2 wires running to it. this is now your dipstick and fill hole. There is a metal tabb holding it in place with a 10mm bolt CAUTION!!! be carefull removeing this bolt it may break off if you dont prelube it with a penatrent. Also never and I mean NEVER use ATF or gear lube in these transmissions. use syncromesh mtf. you can get this lube at the dealer or ask for it at your parts store. Pensoil makes it. Between $5.00 to $10.00 a quart. OR use 10w-30 motor oil. my Izusu tranny holds up to the power of a caddy V-8.
