car quit..try to start and sound like the starting isnt engaging..tried new starter same thing..timing belt or chain or flywheel engine has over 100,000 miles auto trans

any idea's..I am new to this site..

Do a compression test to see if there is a mechanical failure involving the timing chain or tensioner. Do a fuel pressure test and check for spark at the plugs.

engine won't turn over..sounds like the starter is just spinning..not engaging the flywheel..IF the timing belt broke is it hard or expensive to replace..?

It uses a chain and even if it's broken the starter would still engage the flywheel and turn the crankshaft. Pull the plugs and see if you feel air being pushed out as the starter engages. If you dont then there is something wrong in the area of the flywheel or crankshaft.

Ok thank you so much for the help..so if no air comes out the cylinders..would mean? or if it does would mean?

No air the crank isnt turning. Remove the starter and test it, make sure the solenoid works. While the starter is out see if you can turn the flywheel with a large screwdriver wedged in the teeth. If air comes out try the other tests, compression, fuel pressure, and spark.
