Sunfire Gear Shifter Light?

I have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire (Coupe SE 2.2L) and was just wondering if the gearbox is suppose to light at up at night along with the rest of the instrument cluster in the car. I checked around but I keep getting mixed answers. I can't see anything at night when I switch between P R and D (automatic).

Yes there should be a light in there.
