sunfire ignition info needed

Hi
I have a sunfire 2001
the anti theft is on and the motor is stalling
I have read on the internet it could be my ignition switch
but I have an ignition switch modular on the side of my steering wheel
and a ignition lock with the pass lock chip
my car is starting and misfires and stalls when tring to drive it
whats the difference between the two and witch would control the fuel and the power.

do you have a check engine light on?
do you have a second key you can try?
are you referring to the ignition switch and the lock cylinder with passlock sensor?

Thank you for replying to my post .
I am nswering your 3 questions :

1- the red anti theft lock and yellow service lights are on.
2- I tried other keys also and the problem is still present.
3- yes, I am refering to the ignition switch and the lock cylinder with the passlock sensor.

The car runs poorly and stalls when trying to drive the car.
I would like to know the difference between the two : what does the pass lock sensor do on the lock cylinder
and what does the ignition switch do ? According to the internet both cut fuel to the engine and the car stalls
and both are causing problems to the Sunfires .

I would like to know what would be my problem, because I can't use my car at all .

You need to scan the computer for codes which are causing the service light to come on and that will lead you in the right direction to find out why the engine is stalling.
If you had a true passlock problem the car would not start. The passlock sensor is part of the ignition lock and is the cause of the anti-theft light.

Thank you for replying to my post again and helping me understand the probleme I am having.
About scanning for the codes of the red anti theft and the yellow service light .
would any obd 2 scanner read the codes or do I need a special code reader
to find my codes .

You are scanning for the yellow service light not the anti theft light and any OBD2 scanner should work.

I will try a obd2 scanner hope it reads the code
how can I scan the red anti theft light code
or will the yellow service light code tell me why my service light and red anti theft light is on

any ideas what you think it could be the problem with my sunfire
could it also be my ignition switch on the left side of my steering wheel .

You would need an advanced tool such as a Tech II for the security light but it usually requires a new lock cylinder or some people circumvent the passkey system with resistors spliced into the wire harness.
No point in guessing why the service engine light is on, you need to scan for the code.

Not trying to be an ass i ran into this on a Silverado 1500 w passkey three, anti theft was illuminated along w service engine and had a runnabilty issue. I used a snap on modus scanner the issue was w the software in the pcm itself and a broken ground wire. In cluster on engine, the software failure was in the security system for passkey and skim reader. Modus will access all systems on vehicle. Note the modus is generally out of financial reach of most average folks. 10-15k and unless youre using it daily kinda waste of money and requires yearly updates.

the problem was the passlock sensor on my ignition lock
had to be releared and the car is back to normal again
