Hi all, I have an '03 Sunfire.

I was sitting in a car park, idling, with the A/C on, on a hot day. Ever since then:

  • When I accelerate I hear a deeper revving noise that I can only describe as 'more motory' or 'belty' or even 'growly'
  • The car temperature gauge has been creeping towards the red in stationary traffic - fine when going faster
  • The A/C now goes warm or hot in slow traffic - fine at faster speeds

Is there a common culprit for the above?

Ideally you'll know just what part I need to buy on eBay! :D

check if the radiator fan has stopped working

Thanks, is there a quick and easy way I can check this? Just look through the grill to see if it's spinning?

If so what part would I need to replace?

it the fan is not spinning you have to determine whether the problem is the sensor, the fan motor, or a relay. sounds like you should invest in manual covering repairs for your vehicle.

Thanks guys. The fan is NOT spinning.

Any chance you'd be kind enough to tell me if there are any simple checks to determine if it's the sensor/motor/relay? I'd rather pay a mechanic than learn the manual as I'm selling the car soon.

Thanks again in advance! :)

I have a similar problem. Only the relay is good, the fan motor is good, and the sensor is good. Checked ground and it's good. Fan works at first, then stops working after driving. Only other thing I can figure is the computer. Any thoughts on that?

the fan should turn on ,when you turn on the ac. are you saying the fan wont come on at all? even when getting above normal operating temp?

Turn on the ac, or run wires direct from the battery. If it works, check the relay. If it doesn't work, replace the fan.
