After flushing my radiator I opened my trunk to get the coolant out, and the trunk lid wouldn't close. Any ideas on fixing it?

I read online that some people hooked a chain to the hook that the latch latches to, pulled it, and the hook popped out enough to hook to the latch. I'm gonna try that as soon as I get a chain but I was wondering if anyone else has any other ideas?

determine if the hook needs adjustment or the lock mechanism failed. Use a screwdriver to force the lock mechanism into the closed position and then see if you key causes the latch to pop

I already used a screwdriver and it didn't work. And the key has never worked to open the trunk. I have to manually pop it from the inside of the car.

sounds to me like the common sunfire/cavalier trunk problem. take a pry bar to the bottom part of the latch (the one attached to the back bumper) and pry it up a little bit. everytime you slam the trunk on these things, that little bar there gets pushed further and further in, and causes the latch to not catch it

I fixed it earlier. There was a metal piece that the hook is supposed to sit on top of, but from slamming it, the metal piece moved on top of the hook so I had to bend the metal and lift the hook up. Then bend the metal back to it's original place.
