TC light stalling problem

Hi, I came accross this forum while searching the web for my question about my problem. It would be greatly apreaciated if someone knew the cause of my problem. So my problem is at it follows:

My sunfire will stall and jerk when the TC light go on for nothing (happen when driving or at a stop), the car jerk and will not shift properly until it stalls. It happen more frequently now that it is getting colder. Past summer the car ran great with no problem. Last winter it was the same problem. I discover by pushing the TC switch on the dash before starting the car will make the car run somewhat better. I know this is an electrical problem but we do not know where does it originate from. My sunfire is a 2001 with only 108000kms

TC light issues

It could possibly be that you need a new cluster. My cluster has gone bad as well. It acts up frequently whenever I'm rewiring under the hood. A new one costs around 230. You could probably pick one up at a Pull-it yard for less than a hundred though. When my cluster was malfunctioning, My car would start fine, but immediately die. The battery read fully charged too, so it was the cluster malfunction that made it lock up. You could have bad wires touching there or a poor soldering job.
 
Have you had the system scanned for codes? Did you check for a bad wheel sensor or harness leading to the wheel sensor?
 
^ I agree, the wiring on these are notorious for going bad, especially on the front.

Hi, no there are no codes when scanned, but I think it's more plausible that my cluster is having problems. The check engine light does not light up when the key is at the on position. This morning it did the same thing except the temp gauge when out when the light when on. I give I slight bang on top of dash and the temp gauge when back and the light when off. I think will change the cluster to see if it will change something.
 
I tried changing the cluster to no avail. Could it be that we need a new computer (ECM)? We check for any cut wires or loose connection but there were none. The car act far more when it's humid (like this morning) when ti stalled 3 times.

Have it scanned for codes so you dont have to guess.
 
The thing is that the car doesn't have any codes when scanned. This morning, the car was acting up, so I when under the hood and remove the abs fuse and the problem when away. I will have to look up the wires more carefully when the car is on the hoist.

You are scanning the correct computer, it;s not the ecm.
 
Update

I just wanted to let you guys know that I found my problem. I dug the wires out and found two broken wires, (one was for the temp sensor and the other one for the maf sensor that's wasn't getting a proper voltage figures the performance issues.)
 
Glad you got that fixed. I'm really surprised you never got any codes with those two sensors weren't connected.
 
Sorry for lighting up an old thread, but My maf sensor started again to act upp but now it coded for an circuitry problem. I would have the need for the computer wiring diagram, so that I could juste wire new wires from the sensor to the computer to the sensor.
