I was looking at parts on Oreilly's and a switch type was an option so I wasn't sure.But looking at the Haynes manual it looks like the later ones used a switch type sender for the fan and the newer ones control the fan with the computer.
I remember the old 80's XBody cars ( Citation , etc.) had a one wire grounding out sensor for the fan .
Once the car got to certain temp, the sensor grounded out to the block to complete the circuit, a simple fix was just to ground the sensor wire when the sensor went bad. ( more of a simpler fan control system........ IMO)
