Hi all,
Im planning to swap the old TH400 for an 1999 4L80e Trans on my '73 catalina Safari. The question I have is, what's there to be done and purchase to make this happen? I'm aware of the different bellhousing and shorter driveshaft. The fact a computer is needed and the crossmember has to be modified. I even read something about the speedometer but as you probably will notice I'm a bit new to this.

I will not perform the swap all by myself but the parts scavenging is on me. Besides, I'd like to know what's happening :). Who has done this before?

Thanks, kirill (all the way from the Netherlands)

Why would you go with that versus a 700r4 and not have to deal with a fully electronic transmission?
Have you used Google, seems to be alot out there.
You are the first person to my knowledge to bring up the topic on this forum.
If you dont mind let us know how it goes, thanks.

Out here in the Netherlands that stock isn't like in the US unfortunately and got a good deal on the 4L80e I think!

Your Pontiac engine block has the starter on the driver's side. Did you look at the transmission to see which side it expects the starter to be located?
Also dont you need a Chevy to BOP adapter?
Link below is a 4L60E maybe different.

Oof that's a good one! In the story is this part "Of bypass this series of trans and use a 4l80e, which is what I really should have done to begin with, but got talked out of by my transmission builder." Hope this suggests the 80e has the starter on the same, left, side but I'll go figure this out. Huge thanks
