Hello all. I just bought a 1968 lemans it's in rough shape and I'm not thinking about a resto but more along the line of a bracket car to help keep me busy on the weekend. The down fall is that it has drum brakes at all 4 corners and I need at least disc brakes out front for safety reasons and being able to actually stop the car in time. So my question is is there a cheap but effective way to do a conversion and not have to spend 900 bucks on the kit?
Ebay pick up someones used parts, then add new new rotors and rebuild the calipers,
I have seen lot of nice used aftermarket parts on there, just keep your eyes peeled.
I will do what I can to locate you some nice parts and provide links to stir your imagination.
keep in mind the links I may send may not be what your looking for or my recommendation to buy them. it is merely at starting point for you to investigate.
eBay can be a tricky place to buy, so do your homework and google any sellers you have a bad feeling about.
There are some online used racing parts sites where parts can be had cheap.
My advice is save your cash up so your ready when that sweet deal comes along. with a little elbow grease you could end up with 4 wheel multiple piston brakes for a fraction of the price.
what is your target time? are you wanting to run 1/8 or 1/4 mile?

I have a fuel cell with mounting brackets and bulk head fitting installed the lower bulk head fitting will need some new nylon washers, the previous owner tried to stop a small fuel leak with RTV lol
it also has a fuel level sending unit installed also. so it does not have any foam it.
The one I have looks like this one, it only has two reviews both had negatives to say about it, added with the fact that the one I have has a seeping lower bulkhead fitting and a tricky to get off fill cap. I admit it is not the best one around. But it may just be your cheapest option when your ready.
I would just ask for you to pay for shipping, once you got it and your happy with it just send me anything cheap that you do not need but like and is inexpensive for you to ship to me. basically a trade for something you need for something you do not need done on the honor system.

" Disc Spindles: GM was good at making things interchangeable, and the front spindles were no exception. There are several cars you can look for when searching for these spindles, and they are a direct swap onto any ’64-72 A-Body. You can find them on 67-72 GM A-bodies (Chevelle, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Skylark, GS, LeMans, GTO, Cutlass, 442). They were also used on GM’s 67-69 F-body (Camaro, Firebird) and ‘68-74 X-body (Nova, Omega, Ventura, Apollo). 1967 was the first year for the factory disc brakes, and along with the ‘68s, they used the very rare four-piston calipers. These are very expensive to rebuild, and are worth much more to someone looking for “correct” 67-68 discs than to anyone just looking to stop well. For this reason, it is recommended to use the ‘69 and later single-piston calipers. The 11” discs are sufficient for stopping your Chevelle for ordinary type driving, but they will get hot and fade quickly if you do any road-course racing."
