I recently got a 2000 Grand Am SE 3400 from my sister who has kept up with maintenance. With winter coming, the thermostat takes awhile but maxs out
around 160. I've seen 160, 180 or 195. Which is it?

Living in the Central Coast of California, I'm not privy to car life in snow country but I do know that your car will not progress out of it's cold engine loop if the thermostat is not correct. You should use the factory recommended temp. I believe the OEM temp is 195.

I'm not sure what you mean by maxing out. OE is 195*F. I use stock temperature (195*F) and my car warms up quickly and the heat is great.

I've replaced the thermostat with a 195 degree setting.
180 degrees was for the 4 cylinder.
Plenty of heat now!
