I am new here so I apologize if this has already been addressed. I have the opportunity to purchase a 85 1 owner 77000 original mile trans am. So here is the issue it was stored for two years when they got it out of the temp controlled garage they checked the oil and took it around the block. Upon returning home the car made a knocking sound they shut it off and it wouldn't re start. I have heard timing do this and have heard that 305 small blocks have issue with the distributor bolts coming loose or could it be a old gas issue any input is appreciated the price is really sweet I just want to know if I am on track

There could also be severe engine damage. You dont start up a two year old unused car and drive it around the block. You put in fresh oil and filter first. Let them get it running without any sounds otherwise walk away.

Thanks for the info I found a motor locally. We used the engine bad argument and got the car for 500.00 bucks.
