Not sure how the rod attached to the old carb. The bracket on the carb you have is what I've seen used with later model Pontiacs that utilize a cable instead of a rod for linkage. My 70 GTO is a good example. There would be an "eye" on the end of the cable that would attach to the stud shown at the top of the lever. Here's a picture of it installed on mine.
Car had a 2 barrel on it from factory but previous owner had a holly spread bore carb that he was going to install. The linkage did hook up to that carb correctly but I decided to ditch the Holley and install the quadrajet
think I might just look for a different stud for the end of the rod. One with a home that I can slip over the stud on the bracket and secure with a cotter pin
