throttlle body, cold air intake

I have a big bore throttle body on my 6 cyl 88 GT and a high performance air sysyem. My mechanic said car would run better with original throttle body and original Cold air intake box. Said these would help lower the rpm's and give better (smoother) performance and gas mileage anyone have first hand experience with this senerio ? Don't want to purchase these and find out they make no difference.R Thanks

First, where did you get the big body throttle body? Some places that sell them for Fiero's did a bad job of cutting the throttle plate. Hence they tend to idle higher because they do not fit the bore evenly.
Next, yes the stock cold air intake is better than the aftermarket versions with a cone filter. The only aftermarket CAI kit that actually works is Rodney's:

As for the throttle body, either put the stock one back on or have the throttle plate remade to fit.
