ticking noise under acceleration

99 2.4L ticking sound from engine starts when rpms get over 2000 and during accereration. as soon as i let off the gas it goes away. im guessing valves, head gasket (not likely as it was replaced couple thousand miles ago). any insight to what it is?

take a rubber hose, place one end near your ear and move the other end around till you find the source of the noise

only does it over 2000 rpm so kinda hard for me to do that working on it myself
