I'm replacing the timing belt on my 2009 Pontiac G3, 1.4L DOHC LXV engine, and need help with Torque specs. The Timing belt kit TCK338 came with instruction that calls for the timing belt idler pulley at 37 ft. lbs and the timing tensioner pulley at 40 ft. lbs. However I purchased the ChiltonDYI on line manual and it calls for: Timing belt idler pulley at 18 ft. lbs and the timing belt Tensioner pulley at 15 ft. lbs.

That's a big difference! Anyone know which one is correct?

Much Appreciated!

those 18 and 15 numbers sound very low, what is the diameter of the bolts at the thread

They are approximately 10/32". A bit large than 1/4" but smaller than 3/8".
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I seem to have run into another issue. I followed the Chilton instructions step by step. Rotated the Crankshaft to align the timing marks. Removed the valve cover to insert the Cam shaft alignment tool into the grooves on the end. However these seem to be out of where they need to be by 165 degrees. Any tips on how to rotate these. Can these be rotated independently of the cam sprockets. The Cam sprockets gears doesn't look like they will align to their timing marks correctly if the cam groves are aligned? Any tips?

I completed the job. Car runs great. I was looking at the wrong mark on the cam shaft. Once I found the correct timing mark it all came together. I simply needed to rotate the Crankshaft one more revolution. Once I did that everything was lining up. I bought the timing chain special tools kit which made the job a lot more precise. Would have been difficult to do it without these special tools. Thanks Melsg5 for the info on the torque.

glad everything worked out for you
