timing chain

i have 2000 pontiac sunfire 2.2 ohv and the timing chain is little bit loose. I installed new tensioner but didnt help any with the tension,is the chain suppose to be little loose and also the cam gear is about a tooth off from the timing tab on the tensioner when the crank timing gear is at TDC but seems to run fine and no hard starts....Thx

You should have changed the chain and tensioner especially since it has skipped a tooth.

but would the car start and run if it was off a tooth with no hesitation.I thought that the timing cam hole was suppose to be aligned with the tab on the tensioner,But I was not sure if i was correct or not.

this is the alignment on your engine, nothing to do with the tensioner
