Hey guys, was wondering if any of yaz have tried the all gear timing package, instead of the chain type? What's your thoughts on it?

chain set is forgiving to the engine

a gear set can give a more positive engine feel , less engine noise
but the bad side could cause more damage if anything goes out of whack

so really it comes to how u drive the vehicle and how talented u r if anything happens

I thought the gear set up causes more engine whine. How high a horsepower engine are you working with?

it will depend on the type of gears Helical are generally quiet spurs are normal noisy

its all about the point contact and release but in the end of the day the noise will not be a big thing

gears have less maintenace less parts to replace, while a chain has tensioner, guides and chain

are you saying the v8's are using tensioners and guides?

the 4.6 L northstar use tensioner

the 5.7 L corvette does not

Mine is all bone stock, it's a 305 TPI setup, all factory, if i read it right, has about 210 hp near idle.

In my opinion it would be a waste of money switching to a gear drive. Any high performance chain and gears would be more than enough to handle your engine.

I hear ya, was thinking of maybe saving a lil gas milage by making it more efficient i guess, it's my daily driver for now lol

Never heard of that as a way of saving gas. Properly inflating tires would give you more of a pay back and cost a lot less.

Oh i know keeping the tires up is a major part of it.W/o the slack part of a chain, i would think it would fire a hair better, but was just a guess really.

The gears may give the knock sensor a false reading, pulling timing and killing gas mileage.
