just had my TPMS replaced and had an interesting discussion with the mechanic

they recommend not to use the max tire pressure, but something closer to 35 psi

of course the TPMS thinks this is too low, in fact it thinks anything under 50 is too low (max is like 54?)

so have idiot light constantly nag me, listen to the local mechanic, run it overpressure, or listen to internet experts saying that my car is going to explode or catch fire if I run the tires at more than 45psi?

remember the big thing about SUVs with fatal rollovers due to tire underinflation?

and my personal experience of having 4 tires ruined because the max was 44 and the local mechanic 'expert' thought 32 was better(ford focus)

if you are going on the tire pressure listed on the tire you are wrong. That is for a tire under maximum load which could be a vehicle much much heavier than yours. The correct cold tire pressure for your vehicle is listed on a sticker attached to the drivers door frame.
What do you mean you just had your TPMS replaced? The system consists of a sensor in each tire wheel stem and a receiver and other components. So exactly what was replaced and did anybody scan the system with the correct type of scan tool?

had sensor s in all 4 tires replaced, at a shop

you need the shop to look at it again, it is very unusal to replace all 4 sensors.
Did they use a scan tool to determine the sensors were bad?

bought car used, 2 were missing, I was guessing that the sensors were original and that I might as well replace all 4. one replaced at one shop, the other 3 replaced at another. not related but i am thinking the 2nd shop was more reputable.

2007 torrent, I don't think I'd assume that 10 year old sensors would have batteries that worked well(well 11 years now I guess)

yes perhaps after 11 years it wasnt a waste replacing them but if you still have a warning light you need a shop that can scan the TPMS for what the underlying issue is.
