If I buy a new tpms sensor and replace one that is acting up, what needs to be done after it's installed? I assume it probably has to be programmed to work? Surely the car's ecm won't just automatically recognize the new sensor, that would be too easy. I currently am having issue with a tire that keeps going flat that tire shop has looked at 3 times and determined the wheel (oem chrome plated) was pitted causing the leak. I bought a new oem wheel and had replaced and surprise surprise still leaking. I'm wondering if the tpms is leaking at stem. Any way to check it before replacing? Still have lots of tread left on tire so really don't want to buy new tire at the moment, plus can't seem to find a leak on the tire anywhere.

this is a tire shop you are dealing with that has a tank that they can submerge the mounted wheel/tire to detect a leak?
you dont mention the year, but did you look in the owners manual to see how the sensor is reset?
if you are dealing with a tire shop and you cannt reset it yourself they should be able to.

sorry, it's an 07'. No I don't believe the tire shop has a tank to dip the wheel/tire in; When they had me come back to look at the original wheel to show me where it was pitted they just had a spray bottle of soapy water. I know how to reset the sensors as far as relearning after rotate/balance. I'm just wondering if the valve stem in the tpms could be bad. I'm having to put air in it everyday and it's getting real old especially in middle of winter; been fighting with this since this past summer.

you need to go to a shop that has a tank to submerge the complete wheel/tire. If you are adding air everyday the source of the leak should be pretty obvious.
