Happy holidays,
I have a 1964 Lemans. Does anyone have a picture of the floor pan where the hole is cut out for the automatic transmission shifter cable to go through? This would be for a car with a console shifter. I recently had a shifter conversion done and my mechanic said that the cable in my conversion kit is too long and the way it is set up my console and shifter won't line up. It's about 4-6 inches to long. I have a feeling the hole they drilled is not in the right spot. I am coming to find out it is hard to find a good mechanic that knows how to properly put things together. I know it is hard when you are putting in things that are different than stock but if you pay a lot of money it should be done right.
Thank you for looking,
Josh

Thank you once again Melsg5,
I was also hoping someone might have a pic of the transmission cable hooked up to the shifter as well. I really want to try and finish this install myself, since I spent a large chunk of money for this mechanic to do this and after being $1000 over budget and it hooked up just to drive it.

Who manufactured the shifter and for which transmission?

The shifter is an original pontiac lemans/GTO 64-67 console shifter. The transmission is a 700r4. I bought a conversion kit from Shiftworks that is specificly for the 700r4 or 2004r tranny that goes into my year (64-65) car. Right now the mechanic has the shifter pretty far back (almost between the seats. I see from www.amesperf.com the hole is cut near the front of the floor pan in the middle. My mechanic cut the hole a lot further back (closer to where there is no hump for the tranny) and told me the cable is about 4-6 inches to long. I am no mechanic but I know these cables can be bent a little (not too much), but it is hard finding mechanics that do a good-great job.

I would contact Shiftworks to see if they gave you the correct cable and for more information on how the stock setup is supposed to hook up to their parts and the 700R4. The cable maybe too long because the hole is in the wrong place.

Yes I contacted shiftworks. They said to measure the cable. I haven't had time to get under the car and do that. I guess I need to really see someone else who has done the swap to see how they did it. See the hole and how the cable was routed or bent. I really want my console in the car.
