Hey,
i have been working on a v6 gt motor out of an 86 and putting it into a 84 notchback. the v6 was an automatic transmission and i am trying to get it to work properly as a standard transmission but having i cant seem to find the correct flywheel because i have put 2 different flywheels in and there a shaking coming from the engine when it idles... is this bad or not??? is it possible to change an automatic to a standard??? what flywheel should i use???

please help!!
 
What year were those flywheels from? You need an externally balanced flywheel which means 87 or older.There should be weights welded to the back of the flywheel.

i ordered a flywheel for and 86 gt... would i still need to get a flywheel from an 87 or older?? both flywheels have are solid with no weights welded on
 
86 is older than 87, if you have no weights you have the wrong flywheel

can you post a link to the correct flywheel i need because all the standard shift flywheels that come up dont have any form of weight on them what so ever its for a 86 gt v6 4 speed manual

the fiero store has a 2 flywheels and they are both like mine i can not find any such thing as a flywheel with a weight on the back unless its a flex plate and those are for automatic transmissions?

as much as i'd like to buy that (not trying to sound rude) i'm only 15 and don't have that kind of money but that is the exact shape of the ones i have already put down 250 for flywheels
 
So when you say you ordered a flywheel in post #3, who did you order it from? You are aware of the difference between internally and externally balanced engines and how they use different types of flywheels? All this info is available on the internet, if your flywheels have no weights welded to the back they are for an 88.
 
if you look at the one from Sachs it says it's from production date 5/86 forward, the other one also shows applications way past 86, do you know when you car was manufacturered? Look at this flywheel if you click on the image it says its for externally balanced engines

Im dealing with my first fiero in a long time and have never dealt with a flywheel, but is it possible you could be bolting it to the crank wrong? Or is it a one way to bolt on deal?

thats the gray area, we have no idea what part of the year the 86 was made and every flywheel we pulled up had no weights this might be the one i need i can give it a try and cross my fingers

the car isnt at my house so ill have to wait till the weekend to figure out the VIN

Are you sure the engine is an 86? Even if the vehicle comes up as an 86, that doesn't mean someone at some point swapped in a 1988 version. Do you still have the auto flywheel you took off? Did it have a weight welded onto the engine side of it? If it did not, it could be an 88 engine.

As for weights added, depending on the flywheel it could just be a small metal square welded to the side that faces the engine. Some do not have weights on the manual flywheels but may have some divits cut out as well. The flywheels are spun balanced and depending on what is needed, they may add a weight or remove some material during the balancing. The weights on the auto flywheels tend to have weights due to the thinner design.

i got the new axle from auto zone and im putting it in tomorrow with my fingers crossed and hope it corrects the shake if not then i dont know what we'll do

ok where are the original flywheels {ie the 86 gt and the 84 notchback}
flywheels differ from auto to manual...
what year is the manual tranny.....????
the flywheels you have in must be for a manual...an auto trans flywheel will not bolt up to a manual tranny{all bolt hole will not line up}
also are you sure its an 86 gt v6....?{check numbers on block to find year}

ok next what kind of shaking do you have......?????

and yes an auto to manual swap is possible...{not that hard to do if you do the homework first...} :):)
