Recently bought a '69 Le Mans with a 350 engine and a turbo 400 trans. I am unfamiliar with the turbo 400 transmission. I've heard it said it is a good trans. What is it's qualities that make it better?

If both a T350 & T400 are stock, the 400 will stand up to more torque, and they can be tuned to shift smoother. They were even used as the stock Transmission in Rolls Royce cars for over 10 years.
On the down side they are heavier than a T350, and they take more HP to rotate so they sap a bit more HP from your engine, not much but alittle. I agree that the stock transmission in your car would have been a T350 from the factory if it came with a 350 2bbl. I am not sure what trans came in 350 4bbl equipped 69 Lemans.
