Ok, so as of a couple days ago, something keeps draining my battery every night. It works fine all day long and I get up to go to work and the battery is so dead that it requires charging and cant be jumped. And not long before this I had posted this question on yahoo answers:
This only happened one time so far, I have tested it out other times but it hasn't happened again. But I was worried because I turned my car off and went inside my house but I didnt turn my heater dial to off. When I came back to my car, there was air coming through the vents still, it was forceful enough for me to believe that it was still running (just off the battery I assume) But why would it do this and what can I do to fix it other than the obvious turning the dial to off. I am afraid of the times I forget and come back to my car to it being dead from running the heater all night...Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have a 98' Pontiac Grand Am SE.
So we are thinking that the heater has a short somewhere in it and its sticking on and is draining the battery real quick. Has anybody else dealt with this or heard of this? Also, we might be thinking it has something to do with the ignition switch. It has gone out twice in the last couple years. Could that be causing something to stick on and drain the battery? We tested the starter, alternator, battery and everything is running fine, nothing wrong with it,. So this is an electricity problem or wire problem. Any advice would be really helpful. My father is a mechanic and even he doesnt know whats going on with this car.
