Hello, is something supposed to go into here? (this is where the fuel tank wires pass through the floor of the trunk) - is it an option that just didnt come equipped in my car? (2003 grand prix SE) in which case can i delete those other wires? or did i loose something that plugs in there?
thanks!

The wire colors are Red, White Black and Brown, Red is + 12 volts Black is - 12 Volts White is a common color for GM interior lights, and brown is a color they use for the brake lights.
I had a 1986 Camaro that came with a rear window power pull down, because people were slamming the back window and breaking it.
its most likely an option your car did not come with.
I would bet your gas gauge does not work because the tank sending unit needs to be replaced, that is the common cause of gas gauges not working. one thing you could try is to disconnect the ground wire to the sending unit and see if the gauge moves to past full. better yet if you have a multi meter you can test the sending unit Ohms without removing it.

its already reading past full. - it has maybe 4 gallons in it and is measuring 100 ohms. the ground wire is reading cleanly zero ohms against the frame.

that is common, if i remember correctly the gauge reads past full when its an open circuit. if you have checked all the wire connections that go to the gas tank, no plugs are broken no loose or broken wires, then find Rock Auto . com and select the vehicle, and find a new sending unit for your pontiac.
What goes here? that plug has a cover attached to it, find the place where that cover goes, and the thing it plugs into might plug right into it when you put the cover back on. check your tail lights
