Enamel base also sanding if your just repainting use 220 grit first and remember to go lenght of the car for your strokes primer than go with 400 grit primer again and sand with 600 that will give you a nice smooth surface. If you use putty sand with 220 grit body filler after proper dry time I would sand 150 or 180 take alittle longer but better results than sand 220 primer than 400 primer than 600
