...am? Do you connect the spark plugs according to the firing order 18436572 of the cylinders on the distributer cap and if so how what is 1-8 on the distrubuter cap 1978 firebird trans am 400 6.6?

That would depend on what you did to it ...if the distributor has been out you need to get the timing up on TDC on #1 cylinder and drop the distributor back into phaze with the cam , if the distributor was not taken out you can put it up on #1 cyl and start where the rotor is when #1 is at TDC then go counter clockwise around the cap ... ususally the #1 plug goes towards the front of the cap but untill the cam and distributor are in time you could put the plugs on and never get it correct...
I would suggest getting at the very least a Haynes manual and looking at it for a reference ...
