What is wrong with my 2001 Pontiac Sunfire?

Tracie

When I am driving, all of a sudden the 'trac off' light will go on. Then the engine revs to high RPMs before it will switch gears and when it does, its a heavy jerk forward when it finally engages. When this happened a few times before, the car lost all power and stalled. My boyfriend just replaced the battery and it ran fine for a few days but it is doing it again. All the fluids look fine, except the transmission, which I don't know because I think its a sealed tranny and its UNDER the car so we haven't checked yet. I also just replaced the serpentine belt about 6 months ago and had a tune-up, and they said everything looked great. Has anyone had this similar problem or know what it could be? I'm scared of the repair costs.

All trannies are UNDER the car. To check the transmission fluid level you just pull out the transmission dip stick that's under the hood. Check it just like you do the oil, but transmission fluid is supposed to be checked while the car is on.

there is no dip stick on this car. The car has to be placed on a lift and the fill plug removed while running.

Hide the dip stick

What engineering idiot came up with that system of checking the tranney fluid. what a moreon!! anywhay no wonder I couldn't find the dip stick.
