what needs to be changed?

after an oil change, change engine oil in my message center and service engine soon light comes on my dash. would this be the oil sender or would this be something else like the spark plugs?

Who changed the oil and did they bother resetting the oil message?

I did, its one of the things I don't usually remember doing during the process.
I reset the oil gage on the dash and the message went away. Unfortunately, the service light is still on

Then something else is triggering the message and you or a shop has to determine the cause.

You know what, I was driving down the road to go to the dump and it went away..

You need to have it scanned when it is on. Auto parts do free scan, Autozone, Advance Auto, etc.
