What transmission will work 02 grand am

Hello all,
I have an 02 Grand Am SE with a bad 3400 motor and automatic transmission(don't know transmission type). I am looking to buy a 3400 and transmission out of a Buick Rendezvous. Will this fit my grand am?

I'm sure someone else will have an exact answer for you, but I think it was a 4T45E but there are differences in transmissions - same with engines. They are designed to mount differently. The is a metal plate on the transmission that tells the specific one. Can't you find one from a Grand Am - would think those would be more common.

If all else fails and you're removing your transmission anyway, then just plain old look at it and the one you want to put into it.

Man, you would think there would be several around but not the case in my area...The 3400 and tranny from the rendezvous I found is 3 hours away. I'm looking for both engine and tranny together to make it a bit easier to swap. May have to go another route. Thanks for the help!

yea that will ensure that they bolt up together correctly, again just look to make sure it can mount to your car (engine & transmission mounting locations) Where are you located? Here in DFW there are lots of pick and pull places and many that are pulled already. I used to use a place called LKQ - you can google it. They can usually find parts from all over the states and ship it - I know transmission & engine are probably not worth shipping for this car but just an FYI. Why not rebuild the transmission? How much is that going to run you vs how much is that engine and transmission used.
