Ok guys here's the deal. I'm 25 years old and my mom is my world I love her to death. With that being said I want to buy her a trans am to thank her for everything she has done for me. She's always wanted the smokey and the bandits trans am (except in blue). What's the best year for that body style and is there anything I should avoid or look at when buying one? I don't really have a lot of money so it's not like I can buy a nice one something around $6k-8k I was thinking I could do. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Nick

The car in the movie was a 76 or 77 so that is the second generation Firebird which started in 1970 and continued to 1981. I would not consider any after 1979 due to the drop in the size of the available engines.
The idea you have is quite noble but the Trans Am is a highly collectible car which drives the price way up. For 6k to 8k you will end up with a car that needs a lot of work. For that same money you could buy her a very nice base Firebird that would be in much better condition.
