I am a fairly new onwer of a 1972 Lemans Convertible and want to upgrade the wheels from stock 14" Rally wheels to something more modern. I am looking at the MHT Bandit Rally II type wheels and really like how they look. I need help with sizing. 17" or 18"? width? Backspacing? Tire size? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Scott

if you want to go with a reproduction of the original Rally II wheels, year one sells a kit that offers the same style wheel but in a 17" x 9". theres a few other options, you can get a staggered set (which i put on my 72 luxury lemans) which has 17"x9" on the back and 17"x8" for the front. that kit comes with a little different backspacing, but for most of the other kits i think its 5" backspacing. check them out theyre really good looking wheels.

go to this link, sizes would be the same for yours. Personally I woudnt go larger than 17 the suspension was never designed to handle tires with such a short sidewall.

This is also a worry for me. I live in new england where the roads are awful , riddled with pot holes and such. I dont want to get those rally II 17" if theyre gonna ride like crap cause of the lower profile tire needed.

anyone have any experience with this?

anytime you lower the profile you lose the cushion that the sidewall provided when hitting pot holes. So the question is can you currently find a 15 inch tire and for how long that meets your width requirements.

This is my car (still on the lift so not fully on the ground) but the wheels look great. The kit is on Year One. 275 in rear and 245 in front,
