Hi. New to the forum. Just bought a 91' sunbird. I'm trying to pretty much overhaul the whole car. I'm not the most experienced tech in the world and I'm having some trouble. I've bought two wheel cylinders for the rear drum breaks and after replacing one side I bled the system and pressed on the breaks to see the shoes move and the piston and rubber boot popped out of the new wheel cylinder and sprayed brake fluid everywhere. What would cause that to happen. Overfilling the brake fluid? Thats my only thought except for a faulty wheel cylinder. But I checked the other new one and it comes apart easily too. The old ones didn't want to come apart at all. I tore up the boots trying to get it apart after I took it off.

You should not be working on brakes if you are inexperienced. You endanger yourself and others. You NEVER step hard on the brake pedal with the rear drums removed. You will pop the wheel cylinders as you found out. If the seals are still good reassemble the cylinders and get your hands on a book on the proper method to bleed brakes. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep all this in mind. I've a very thorough person and intend to make sure everything is in working order before letting anybody behind the wheel of this car. Thanks again for the advice and I'll even get an expert opinion after its complete.
