GM engines use two different styles of oil pump. Both are located inside the bottom of the engine inside the crank case. The designs vary between model and year of the engine.

The oil pump on most newer GM engines is located around the front part of the crank shaft.

This usually requires removal of the engine to gain access to the oil pump.

Some GM engines still have the older style oil pump located in the rear of the engine and is accessed by removing the oil pan.

The older style oil pumps cost less than $60 and aren't too difficult for a mechanic to change.

The newer pumps are more expensive and are very involved to change.

Make sure that it is the oil pump that is the problem. It could only be an oil pressure sending unit sending bad information to your gage or oil pressure light.. Or it could be a dirty oil pump pickup screen. You may only need a good engine flush.
