hahaha, nice post... Anyways, the LS1 is the engine in both cars... The WS6 is an option group on the T/A as is the SS to the Camaro... Both cars are Identical in ferformance specs if drivin by the same driver on the same day in the same elements of weather. One is not better than the other as of the 3rd and 4th Gen cars... The only time they had different specs was between 67 and 79. A little history for those that dont know, In 67 both the T/A and Camaro were powered by the same motor for the basic modle... The chev 350. Thats where the simularities ended. The z28 camaro for 67-69 had the underated 290 HP ZZ302, T/A had no such engine. 67-69 SS camaro had either a 350 HO or 396 turbo jet BB. The 396 was rated at 325-350-375 HP versions. The T/A had no such option. The COPO ( central office preduction order ) camaro had an Iron block version of the 427 BB turbo jet engine rated at 425HP. And then The Yenko S/C Camaro, it had the aluminum block 427 strait out of the Corvette rated at 475 HP. In the first Gen the Camaro was the definate dominator of the 2 cars. But in the 70's, the T/A came out ahead with the olds powered 455 BB and 400 small block which the Camaro did not offer in any year. In 1978 was the last year for the pontiac powered firebird, it was also the last year for the 400 SB. The olds 403 ( 185 HP ) versus the 400's 220 HP was available. Both engines were rated a 330 LB's of TQ. In 79, the 403 6.6 liter was the dominating motor of the 2 cars. In 1980-81 the Pontiac had the turbo T/A with a turbo 301 but that was scrapped. In 82 all T/A's and Camaro's were powered by the chevy motors and were therefore equal in performance. And that remained true untill 2002 when GM turned stupid and cut the production. ( expept for the SLP firehawk, it was faster than the SS Camaro but doesnt really count as they were bought from GM then done up as an aftermarket car ) I own a firehawk... Nice car...
Not to chew up your history lesson but you have a few facts wrong ..
First the Pontiac Firebird and the camaro diden't share any engines until the late 70s when GM became more corperate to stay competitive in a global market ..there were No ZZ302 engines they were simply 302 engines The ZZ coding refers to a much later engine (a 350) in "Crate" form, and Chevrolet never refered to any engines in the 60s as "HO" that actually was a Pontiac term for the 326-350-400-455 engines through 74 in firebirds and T/As, the Pontiacs did have competitive engine packages back in the day .. the ram air II,III engines (400) were available in Firebirds as early as 67 and would give a 327-350 Camaro a run and even the 396 would have a hard time beating up a RA III,
The 67-69 cars (Firebirds) were available with Pontiac built 326,and later 350 and 400ci Pontiac built and designed engines, they even had their own 6cyl OHC engine until the 70 models , the Chevrolet counterparts had the 283, 327,350 and the 396 BB engines in the Camaros from 67-69..there were other "specail order" COPO cars but they were not mass produced
after that the 70-76 model firebirds had 350,400,455ci Pontiac built engines available, the 455 was discontinued in 76, the 350-400 in 79 replaced by a Pontiac built 301ci engine and the Olds 403ci engine was put in T/As after the run of 400 Pontiac engines ran out (so you could get either a 400 Pontiac OR a 403 Olds in 79 T/As) and was then replaced by a corperate 350-305 Chevrolet engine depending on where you lived ..
the 301 Pontiac was discontinued after 80 in both N/A and turbo Models
the late 70s were bad times at GM and after the 82 Models were introduced the "corperate" engine program took full effect and all Camaros and firebird models got the Chevrolet based 305-350 ci engines ..
If I remember correctly SOME Pontiac Cars exported to Canada in the 60s May Have had chevrolet engines installed but in the states they each had their own brand engine until the late 70s which is where you may be confused ...
