My 2003 Pontiac Grand Am's security turns on about 50 minutes into driving it, and will not turn off until I turn off the car. I have had many problems in the past with my car not starting, and I am afraid this is going to happen again. Anyone know what cou;d be causing this light to go on?

I had that happen to my grand am too. The only thing that i figured out was that maybe i had a short somewhere or my car started to get too hot. it just eventually stopped coming on. every once in a while it will come on again. i've also had problems with when the security light is on that until it turns off my car will not start which is about 15 min.

To me that sounds like a faulty comp.Try getting it scanned for free and see if any codes come up.

i had stuff slide under my seat one time and it kept messing with the security system in my 97 malibu (same car different sheet metal). pulled everything out from under the drivers seat and made sure all the connections were tight and never had a problem after that.

only way i thought of that was because the same thing happened with my moms park ave a few months earlier...

no idea whats under the seat that would cause such a thing but it worked...

The Vehicles passlock sensor may be going bad, it is located in the lock cylinder and controls the vehicle security system, they have had issues where symptoms like you are describing occur...
most of the time it requires a new passlock cylinder and reprogramming of the system ..
best done by a dealer they have the online diagnostics and equipment to reset the system ...
some independant shops don't have access to GM systems programming ..
