Last year the kid was in the U.S. attending college (really there just to play hockey) she left in August and by late September I was telling her to fill the wiper fluid tank with winter washer fluid. As anyone who has a kid in university knows, they know everything, and don't need your advice. When she came home for Christmas break , the tank was frozen solid, I put it in the garage and put an old interior heater in the engine bay over night .Next morning the tank was almost empty, and any winter fluid just about all drained out. It was too cold to do much but it would hold about one litre/ quart so I left it for warmer days
Today I pulled the tank out and there was no leak in it , I checked the hoses and pump and they seemed ok. But the pump just sits in a rubber grommet, hmm could that be the problem?? Does the pump push up if ice starts to form in the tank? I wrapped some Teflon tape around the pump fitting that goes into the grommet , put everything back together and filled it up. No fluid leaked out,as it did before, so the question is, is that fitting made to unseat itself if the tank starts to freeze? It is an easy fix only about 45 minutes to do the whole thing and to wash all the parts and reassemble

I doubt that it was designed to act as a freeze out plug. If it's not leaking now after your fix consider it taken care of.

Today I went and checked and there is a wet spot, hmmm. The easy way to check the tank is to remove the 3 10mm bolts and pull out the drivers headlight assembly, that revealed the tank and rubber hoses were dry. Further inspection shows the coragated line to the rear washer has a knick and there is a slow leak, but that line would be very tough to get to. So I am going to see if I raise the tube above the level of the tank I can get an air pocket that might break the siphon effect because the tank does not drain dry only down to the level were the rubber hose connects to the rear washer hose. I put in a picture and I will see if this works, my grandfather always said do the cheap and easy first

Fixed

Okay it's been a few days and no more wet spots on the driveway. So it is fixed, just make sure the hose is above the tank, cuz that will stop the fluid from creating the siphon.

Glad to hear you got it fixed

Two months later still not leaking, so it is a cheap easy fix
