Wiring harness

I have an 07 Torrent and when changing the battery the other day, the ECM sprung back to its normal position when I didn't have the cover on the battery. It completely burned through the wiring harness in about 5 seconds. So my question is, to replace the engine harness, do I have to do any engine disassembly or is the harness on the exterior only and just plug and play?

Some disassembly of components may be required to gain access to sensors, etc.
