Last winter there was no cabin heat. The rest of the engine cooling system works fine. The A/C works fine, turn the A/C on full blast and the SUV fells like a rolling refrigerator. I had the thermostat changed out and the heater core blown out. Still no cabin heat. There is no coolant leak anywhere, I have been watching. When I turn the temperature control from cool to heat I can hear the electric motor that moves the flap working. But I don't know if the flap is connected to the motor. How do I get at lease a view of the temperature flap to see if it is connected to the motor and moving? Is there something else that I missed.

Feel the lines going in and out of the heater core.
There is no easy way to get to the heater blend door motor.

I can hear the heater blend door motor working when I move the temperature control nob from cool to heat. I am wondering if the blend door it self is not connected to the motor.

It's possible but no way of knowing without disassembling.

What are we looking at to get that deep into the dash panel on this rig? I have gone as far as pulling the car stereo to service the built in cd player. The cd player was very dirty. I got the SUV from a tow company auction. I am an Amateur Radio Operator and I used to repair tv's, radios and 2 way radios.

Well if it requires crawling under the dash on my back. That is out of the question. I will have to pay someone to do the crawling. I have spinal stenosis from crawling under 1 to many dash boards over the years to install car stereos, 2 way radios and 2 way radios in aircraft. And a slipped disk in my lower back pinching the right sciatic nerve because I went well over my Dr's ordered weight lifting limit during a move from one apt to an other in 2018.

I have a question. I have done more research into the blend door actuator problem. According to what I have found out. To get at the blend door actuator to change it. Not only does the whole dash have to come apart but the fluid in the A/C lines has to be drained and the heater core removed. Is there a way to rig a rope or a stick from the passenger side to move the blend door actuator by hand. The only other thing that I can think of for the windshild defroster is some kind of 12vdc heater with a fan on the top of the dash. I don't have $700. some odd dollars to spare for a mechanic to take apart the dash to replace a $25. some odd dollar part. Does anyone else have any ideas to rig up a defroster?

You would still need to remove the actuator in order for the door to move.

So the whole dash would still have to be taken apart just to rig a rope or a stick? I guess I will have to go with the 12vdc heater/fan

You would still need to remove the actuator in order for the door to move.

How are you going to force the actuator to turn that the door is attached to?
How are you going to access the door in order to attach anything to it?
Did you ask at a shop for an estimated cost?

Yes I talked to 3 shops and they all quoted around $700. just for labor because of the time involved in taking the dash apart, draining the A/C pipes and refilling them with freon and pulling the heater core. I live on SSDI disability. I can't afford that kind of an expenditure. I am still making payments on having the water pump replaced. The water pump popped a seal. If I could get at the blend door, I would disconnect actuator from the door. But even for that I would have to have someone do it for me. My lower back is messed up. To many years of crawling under dashes of cars and airplanes installing 2 way radios, car stereos, power amps, foot warmers and so on.
