Hi, I'm new here(so be gentle
). The wife's 2007 G6 convertible, 3.9L GT (about 75,000 miles)sprang a power steering leak last night. This morning, I crawled under it and the best that I can feel is that one of the power steering hoses is laying on the exhaust just below the (pre)cat. The silver heat barrier is all crispy and feels like it has burned through. The hose is wet there, and it feels like it is burned through also. First, I can't believe that hose (even though it has thermal protection. The other hose is directly above it) was meant to be laying directly on a hot exhaust pipe. Second, I only found one TSB that might be related; it's number is 49764, but the description is not complete. Do any of you have access to further information on this TSB? Or, do any of you know anything about this issue? Third, do any of you know if this issue would be covered under the 5 year 100,000 powertrain warranty? It looks like the cradle may need to be dropped, so I'm going to have somebody fix it. But, since this is a design flaw, I'm hoping GM will step up to the plate (I'm not holding my breath). The wife sure freaked out when the fluid hit the exhaust pipe and the smoke came pouring out from under the hood. Luckily, she had only run a short trip and the pipe was not fully heated.
