Ok so while at the junk yard looking for stuff I started getting greedy since the only bird there was from 92 and so I started yanking parts with the thought of "I bet this will fit" So below I have comprised a little list of what I have found was interchangable between the 88 and 92.

The reason I am posting this is because according to the Hollander Interchange (yeah I have it lol) none of the parts should interchange between these years.

So the parts that interchange if both cars are the 2.0

Valve cover (this is tricky the 88 has compression stops but the 92 ommitted them. So to interchange it you must purchase the plastic core gasket for a 92 in which the stops are given to you to put in the gasket holes. All filters and covers fit between the two and all bolts are 10mm)

IAC valve (it is exactly the same you DO NOT need the wiring harness)

TPS (same as IAC)

Entire TBI unit (this works but I just rebuilt mine so I didn't take it. The top portion of the 92 was thinner than my 88 but one coule be put on top of the other. All parts can be switched between)

Air filter housing (all parts are the same except the little sensor next to the tranny fill dip stick I think its an air temp sensor this is different but if you pull the clip from the 92 you could make it work on an 88. Both plugs are the same)

Alternator (appears to be the same 100 amp)

Wiper box (same and pump is the same)

So that is all the parts and some I didn't pull but rather compared to mine and they were all the same.

I did take the valve cover as my compression stops were mushroomed and since the stops were manufactured on the cover they could not be removed. so I did what I said above and it worked great.

So all in all it seems GM changed very little between model years as far as the engine is concerned.

It was sad to see the engine in the junk yard had oil all over it and all the aluminum is permanently discolored from it (yep I'll have to paint the cover since its stained or polish it) Looks like it blew the HG and someone ran it until it died. Had the typical burnt oil smell pontiacs get when no one works on them.

Man GM did a nice job on the body of these cars cause like mine it had hardly any rust and what was there was just surface rust. it read 214,000 on the odo. So apparently these cars make it pretty far even if they are neglected.

EC, sure it was a 92? Mines a 92 2.0 and I have MPI ( no throttle body)

Maybe a late 91? (New cars came out in September back then, but were started to be built in August.......I think)

From Wiki:

"The largest change for the '92 model year was a revision of the base engine. The 2.0 L SOHC TBI four was replaced with the 2.0 L SOHC MPFI four resulting in a fuel economy increase and power increase. Power was increased from 96 hp (72 kW) to 110 hp (82 kW) and torque increased from 118 to 124 lb·ft (168 N·m)"

Damn maybe I should grab the whole engine and rebuild it and drop it in mine. lol

Yeah it said it was a 92. But the year could be off being a junk yard. But the head light assembly looked to be the ones from the 90's there were small little quirky changes but overall most of it would fit.

Now that you mention the injectors I can't remember if I saw one on it. If not that may account for why the top plate was thinner. Since it wouldn't be housing a injector but would rather be on the fuel rail. But I am curious if I can take the intake and fuel rail and TBI and swap it into my car. Now that would be pretty interesting.

But as of right now my car is sporting the IAC, Washer Box, Valve cover, and the air filter hose. They did do something to the air filter housing that made it a bit longer but it still works. The PCV is even the same lol.

There is a lot of stuff that interchanges between the cars even though hollander says it don't If I had known this I may have saved a couple bucks on Alt and a few other things lol.

Let me know what color of the interior is cause I might need something since you are on the way back to the car for the cam.............

Interior is white man and I will be out at that car quite a few more times just pulling spare parts so what ever you need I can check and take pics to see if its something you would like.

The seats are pretty beat up but looks like the rest of the interior is fine. Oh and dashboard is gray.

Is the dash in good shape??? I've gotta yank mine out and treat it like a headliner!

I need dark gray interior pieces, be on the lookout, when you see one let me know.....Doug in P.R.

For the time being the dash is in ok shape dirty as all hell since they left the top down on it. I'll get a pic next time I'm out

I wonder if they'd let you snatch the header bow? It's the front piece of the top that latches to the windshield frame. I want one for a light bar!

Went out over the weekend to see about taking a few spare pars for the sake of having them and the sons of bitches crushed the car. Talk about a humungous fail since it was the only one they had out there. If another one rolls through I'm snagging everything I can get off. Hope it's a turbo so I can look into seeing if there is a way of modifying my engine for the turbo if not then I would just yank the engine and fix it up and install it.

But yeah I am pissed about that.

But I did find out that old Jeep wranglers are a good place to get some guages for oil pressure and a tach. I think even the automatic sunbird should have a tach since rebuilding the TBI causes you to have to mess with the idle screw to get it perfect.
