Ok I put in the New MSD Distributor, MSD Coil, and MSD 8.5 Wires. I will take a picture tonight when I get home and post them. I am shopping for a new carburator. I am looking at the Edelbrock 750cc. I want one that I dont have to hassle with to much and one I can just bolt on and go. What Edlebrock 750cc will work as a direct bolt on to my 1970 pontiac catalina with the 455 motor?

I'm not familiar with the Edlebrock carbs but I remember, back in the day, that the Carter AFB carbs were known to be good perfomers, very reliable and low maintenance. 625 cfm comes to mind, great size for a stock small block / daily driver. I don't know if they are still available or as good as they used to be.

What is wrong with the current carburetor? if it's the original Quadrajet rebuid it.

yes it the original one. I just want sometning more beefy and also the one on the car I have to pump the hell out of the gas pedal to get it to start.

also i took a quick course on timing the car. I think I may be of a degree or two. I tested it yesturday and it went like a bat out hell. I may have the timing advance a little too much becuase it never moved like that before I put in the new distributor, coil, and wires.

You know, Mel's right. You should rebuild the Quad. It may surprise you with the performance and it's awesome experience. You'll know that carburetor inside and out! The upside is, if it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped, you can still replace it with something better and you'll have added skills to boot. Win/win!

... and that is one sweet ride!

Thank you for the compliment. Ok I will rebuild it. Where do I get the parts to rebuild it? And what do I need? Is there somewhere where I can see how it's rebuilt?

Oh. Also I will take pictures of the inside of the trunk. The car has airbags but instead of hoses I did hard lines for the whole set up except for where they connect to the bags. I did steel braided lines.

Nice! Looking forward to the trunk pics.

You can get a rebuild kit for the carb. It should come with instructions on how to do it. It's been a really long time for me since the last time I rebuilt one (I hate to think how long!) so I'm not too familiar with the new kits but i can't imagine they have changed any.

Just be sure to pay close attention on the float adjustments.

Hey, here's a nice little video on rebuilding the Rochester. There may be more if you do a Google search.

The middle segment of the video shows the 1970 Monte Carlo SS 545. My grandmother had one of those, that same green. It was a pleasure to drive, massive torque! What a cruiser! I tried to buy it from her when she was done with it but she was too controlling, said it wasn't a practical car for a man with a young family and sold it to a stranger. Oh well.

You can get rebuild kits here and the Quad is a 750 CFM so no need to deal with the Edelbrock.

This is a great place. I read in there that you can ship it to them and they will rebuild it for you. I am going to take it off and mail it to them so they can rebuild it. Thank you again, Sorry I was not able to take pictures of the trunk yesturday, the wife wanted me to paint the inside of the house and put a new kitchen faucet in. I did the faucet and went to get the paint. I stared painting the living room yesturday and I am alomost done, next is the hall way and the rooms, and then she tells me she wants the kitchen painted too. I guess the tile was not enough for her Lol!

Here are the pictures of the trunk

Great looking Catalina, Big Kat!

I vote to rebuild the Q-jet also, great combo of decent MPG and power with those huge secondaries.

Write the number of the carb down to make sure you get the correct one back.................

Doug in P.R.

Thank you for the information. The carburator is on its way for a full restoration to Carbs Unlimited (Carburetion.Com):D Man these quadrajets carbs are expensive, I found a guy that would give me an exact one brand new for a little over $1,200. Well thats why its on its way to a full restoration.
