Hi guys. New to this forum. Recently purchased a 66 Lemans and started doing the front drum brakes and immediately noticed that 3 of the front wheel studs were very loose and was actually spinning on the hub as I tried to remove the lug nut. Luckily I was able to get it off. Tried picking up OEM studs but the holes on the hub are too big now and the studs do not fit tight. No one local has these hubs, so I ordered them from the OPGI website, although it will be 2-3 weeks before I can get them and in the meantime I had a local shop this morning weld the stud heads lightly so I can run temporarily. Now I am having second thoughts about the welds. Has anyone had experience with a situation like this? Any help or opinions is appreciated.

why are you having second thoughts? sounds like a perfect solution until you get the new hubs.

Because I started checking some car forums and most of the comments were that the welds would make the studs brittle and it would be dangerous.

wasn't planning on driving car long or hard, but was planning on driving to a local car show this weekend, and mainly just wanted to know if it was safe. From your reply, I am assuming it is. Thanks for the advice!

he is just tack welding in one small spot, I assume, he isnt going to heat the whole stud to very high temperatures. Where is the car show?

He tacked three small tacks on each stud head. not a lot of heat.

Small Local Show in East Moriches (about 5 miles away), and following weekend a larger car show in in Riverhead (and 12 miles away).

there is no discoloration of the metal so I would say no worry. Those OPG hubs looked nice on their site. Long Island is a little out of my area, Connecticut.
