Hello new to the forum. I have a 68 Firebird that is in roller condition. It is a 400 4 speed car. The motor has been rebuilt and has a upgraded cam and heads. But has been sitting for 5 years. The wiring harness has been long gone and purchased new. The diagrams I have are conflicting.

From the wireing plug on the fire-wall the left prong.

Tan = Brake fluid warning
Green= Temp sending unit
Brown yellow=blower motor
Blue= oil pressure sensor
Purple=solenoid
yellow =starter

Now I have a fabric brown/red stitch stamped to a yellow with a steel prong Does this go to the positive side of the coil?

The oil pressure gauge in the car has a tube from the oil filter neck? No sensor to plug into?? am I missing the location or did someone drill out a sending unit to fit the after market gauge?

My goal is to have it run for basic moving around the garages and barn. with out pulling out the ATV and having a assistant.

Lastly there is no connections on the positive side of the battery. I take it the right side plug on the fire wall harness will have the connections to the terminal??

Thanks for any help. Been years since It was wired up no Idea whats what anymore!

your best bet is to get a wiring harness diagram from a source like www.amesperf.com

1970 diagram
dark blue oil pressure switch
purple solenoid
dark green temp sender

the double wire, fabric and solid sound like the positive coil wires
the oil pressure sending unit either for idiot light or gauge fits into the oil filter mount
the positive battery cable goes to the starter there is a second red wire on the same starter post that feeds the rest of the car

Thanks for the info! I wanted to confirm the diagram I have. So I should start on the other harness and run the alternator, voltage reg, and body electrical then? Since I cant crank unless that side is wired? Both terminals are on the starter/Block I am missing the red wire. So the key side will not be powered? The other issue I have is the aftermarket harness which clips in to the fire wall is a male to male clip? I had the engine compartment painted professionally and the connection is very loose and I cant get it "snap" in? Small over spray on the connector. Or is a cheap harness to blame?

Perfect reading material! No such luck on the harness "90.00 E-bay special" Worse comes to worse Ill shell out the cash on a "Painless" brand harness and replace it all. I still have to assemble the rad support and hoses. The body has been blocked in and primed. Not sure If I should hang the front clip and align the body panels or paint them then hang. I am using the factory solar red 71634. Cross my fingers it should be running tomarrow!
