I bought a used 2006 pontiac montana sv6 in 2009 with 46,000 something miles. My dash is lit up with the ABS, traction, and stability lights. Have had work done on the mention problems three times! As soon as I get my van back a week later the lights came back on:confused:. Now the abs system engages for no reason at all and when I put my van in gear it feels like something is clunking or bumping from under it. Even when I come off the break from a stopped position I feel it, or when I drive down the street I feel the clunking or bumping noise. I have put about 8,000.00 worth of work in this van. It seems like the same stuff is happening all over again. Is it worth it to keep pouring money into my van or should I put my golden baby to rest?

With only 46k on it your no where near having to get rid of it. I am concerned though with the quality of the mechanics who are working on it. If the problem comes back a week later, arent you immediately going back to whoever repaired it? Are these shops using a scan tool on these systems or just quessing as to the cause?

There is a bad sensor or the associated wiring is bad. That will throw the three lights you have on.

edukator4life,
I would like to apologize for the issues that you are experiencing with your Montana. I would recommend that you have a GM dealer look into this for you. They may be in the best position to get this issue diagnosed for you. Please keep me posted on this and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.
Thank you,
Stacy GM Customer Service

I have had the sensors changed three times along with the hub bearing assembly by the same mechanic shop because my van at the time was still under the extended warranty.

I have had the sensors changed three times along with the hub bearing assembly by the same mechanic shop because my van at the time was still under the extended warranty. The second time the lights came back on I caused a scene in the mechanic shop that I was allowed to see what they were doing and I saw all the codes. Now if they really changed the parts that part I did not see. Honestly, I am done with pouring money into my van. Thank you for your input.

I have the exact same issues!
I have a 2005 Montana SV6 Extended.

After a hard breaking situation in gridlock Toronto traffic on a hot summers day my traction control and ABS lights came on.
Later that day after getting to where i was going and shutting the vehicle down for an hour or so i restarted to go home and the lights were gone.
A few days later while driving they came on again.
Again they went away while turned off and did not return for another couple of days.
That time i took it in and had it scanned. The shop showed me the code as pass side front wheel bearing.
I authorized repair with AC DELCO parts and paid the 3 hundred and change.
One week later the lights were on again.
I returned to the shop and they scanned and this time it was the driver side wheel bearing. ( Keep in mind i saw the codes come up on their brand new very expensive scan tool)
Again i authorized repairs.
Within a few days the lights were back and the code reverted back to the pass side front bearing. The shop tore out the harness as far back as they could go looking for wiring issues but could not identify an issue. I drove with the lights on for close to a year before taking it to 2 other shops to be scanned. All scans come up the same and refuse to replace the same bearings again.
Now, I can hear a humming/vibration coming from the driver side front while excellerating and turning right. Indicative of a wheel bearing.
How is it possible this vehicle is eating the bearings up?
Important to note..........Brakes and other suspension are in good shape and have been inspected.
There should have been a recall on this issue as i have heard of it numerous times but never heard a resolution.
I will be taking my van to a dealer to be examined soon and if there is no resolution then i will have to sell her and move on from GM products.
Edukator4life.........Any resolution?

I feel your pain, but this is what GM puts out I just replaced my 2nd wheel bearing on my montana and my 3rd on my buick. I would not wait to replace cause this can be a safety issue. I thought somewhere a long time ago I read that if a dealership puts on an "ac delco part" it was to be warrantied for life ? Maybe just wishing. Theses are heavy vans that eat up suspension parts I guess.Good luck and let us know how things work out. By the way I have been using Timkin wheel bearing that seem to last a bit and cheaper than oem.

It also could be the right side CV joint.

2005 Montana ABS & TC worsening despite fixes

While researching the problem I came across this thread. Pretty much everything described is relevant to my van.

After a spinning attempt to get free from an icy slope, one year ago, the TC and ABS lights came on. Mileage at that time was about 12k. After arriving home and shutting down, then the next day start up - no lights to service ABS or TC. Lights would come on without rhyme or reason, and occasionally one or the other would engage for no good reason, and gradually got worse. Replaced wheel bearings both sides. Did not fix the problem. One side replaced again on warranty when the bearing was actually going bad. Replaced the wire harness leading from the bearing to the computer. No help. Sway bars also replaced. All brakes have been serviced. I trust my mechanics.

Since then (over last 3 months or so) TC & ABS engage just by stepping on the accelerator or braking (lightly or not), and once just by starting the engine. Now they engage all the time, feels like things are slipping, or the lights come back on and TC & ABS are not available. Frankly that's preferable! Also since original problem the right passenger shock seems to hit bumps really hard, even though the shock was replaced (which helped a little).

So... I'm wondering if this is a faulty system that was created for this vehicle?? Thoughts?

What codes are coming up when the system is scanned?
